{"id":3749,"date":"2025-11-27T14:26:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T14:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wealthylifestyle.online\/?p=54"},"modified":"2025-11-27T14:26:36","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T14:26:36","slug":"liberty-hospital-1-5-million-data-breach-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nerdwallett.xyz\/?p=3749","title":{"rendered":"Liberty Hospital $1.5 Million Data Breach Settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individuals whose private information the data incident at Liberty Hospital may have exposed to unauthorized third parties could be eligible to claim up to $500 for documented losses or an estimated $150 cash payment from a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.claimdepot.com\/settlements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">class action settlement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.libertyhospital.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Liberty Hospital<\/a>&nbsp;agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging an unauthorized threat actor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ago.vermont.gov\/sites\/ago\/files\/documents\/2024-10-16%20Liberty%20Hospital%20Data%20Breach%20Notice%20to%20Consumers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accessed its computer network<\/a>&nbsp;on or about Dec. 19, 2023, potentially exposing sensitive information of patients and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can claim benefits from the data breach settlement?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the official settlement website, individuals are eligible to participate in this settlement if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are an individual residing in the United States.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The data incident Liberty Hospital experienced on Dec. 19, 2023, potentially exposed their private information to unauthorized third parties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The types of private information that may have been affected include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Names<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Addresses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Date of birth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical records<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical treatment information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diagnoses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Security numbers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Telephone numbers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health insurance information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email addresses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individuals who received a notice about the data incident are likely included in the settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much can class members get?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Class members can claim one of two types of cash benefits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Documented expenses and losses:<\/strong>\u00a0Up to $500 for unreimbursed, documented out-of-pocket expenses and financial losses fairly traceable to the data incident. Eligible expenses include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Costs, losses or expenditures relating to fraud or identity theft<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional fees (accountants, credit repair services, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Costs for freezing or unfreezing credit with credit reporting agencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit monitoring costs incurred after the data incident<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Miscellaneous expenses (notary, postage, copying, mileage, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alternative cash payment:<\/strong>\u00a0An estimated $150 cash payment. The final amount may be higher or lower depending on the number of valid claims and the total funds available. This is what&#8217;s known as a pro rata adjustment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is the cash payment calculated?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The settlement fund available for payments to class members is the remainder after deducting attorneys\u2019 fees, service awards and administration costs from the $1.5 million fund. The settlement administrator will then divide the cash payment amount among all valid claimants who select the alternative cash payment option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If more class members file claims, the payment per person decreases proportionally.
